Book Club Confronting Important Bronx Issues

The closing of the Baychester Barnes & Noble in 2016 might be considered a blessing in disguise because it encouraged some Bronxites to start book clubs like the ‘One Book One Bronx’ group that tackles important Bronx issues. The club was featured in this Forbes report.

The book club, which was created by the Literary Freedom Project in 2018, confronts about 250 or less pages a month that have to do with issues like gentrification, #MeToo, and racism.

Its founder says the borough is in the infancy of gentrification, but there are local book lovers helping to fight it like the soon-coming Lit Bar and the Bronx Book Festival.
