On Wednesday evening Dr. Josephine Moffett, a Riverdale resident and the St. John Fisher College Site Director of the Ed.D. Program in Executive Leadership was honored by the Lower Hudson Council of Administrative Women in Education for inspiring women in education and her exemplary career as an educator.
Dr. Moffett leads a doctoral program out of the Iona College campus in New Rochelle, NY that has provided a pathway for Bronxites to become executives in a variety of fields including education, healthcare, and criminal justice.
In introducing Dr. Moffett, SJFC Site Administrator Sonia Marshall-Brown recounted instances where Dr. Moffett not only personally mentored students, but once even opened up her home to a student who had fallen on hard times.
Dr. Moffett said that women must stand up for who they are and represent what they believe. In accepting the award she said those values were inspired by her own grandmother.
“One of her sayings was ‘You are not what they call you. You are what you answer to. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” Dr. Moffett told the educators and supporters in attendance. “That simple saying was a lesson in all aspects of life.”
