Bronx Week is here and part of that initiative is building the connection between business owners and students to build an employment base of Bronxites. The Norwood News reported that Bronx President Ruben Diaz Jr. brought them together on Monday at the Bronx Zoo in an effort to decrease the borough’s high unemployment rate.
The Bronx Private Industry Council, (Bronx PIC) founded by Here to Here, is at the forefront of making these connections. Through the program, students can learn skills they wouldn’t ordinarily have access to in fields they might not have considered entering.
During the first year, 257 students were employed through the program, with all employers saying they would hire interns again. There are currently 22 businesses that signed on with the Bronx PIC and they hope to add more this year.
