The romance of a warm summer night on a Bronx rooftop brought a couple of hundred salseros to the Bronx Terminal Market (BTM) for their second annual Salsa Dance Party on Thursday evening. First they got lessons from Steven Seda of the Seda on 2 Dance Studio in Westchester Square and then they danced and swayed to the sounds of Funk Urban Salsa who raised the summertime temperature, to say the least.
“We wanted to bring someone who has a dance studio in the Bronx to give a full lesson, so once the band came on everyone was comfortable and in the mood to dance.” said Vicki Orena of the Auster Agency that works with the BTM to set up their popular summer events. “The Bronx is a whole mix of cultures and I think that shows here.”
“The Bronx is known for salsa; it’s known as El Condado de la Salsa, (the county of salsa),” dance instructor Steve Seda told thisistheBronx in between dances. “People here are very passionate about it and really embrace salsa music and the culture. That’s why we support all these amazing events.”
As Jose and Natalie Cruz caught their breaths before the band took the stage, they each had something to say about El Condado de la Salsa.
“I’m loving it,” Natalie said. “The music the dance steps, the atmosphere, everything.”
It’s amazing to have this here,” Jose said. “It’s the boogie down.”
