This week’s BronxTalk on BronxNet features in-depth interviews about ‘Decade of Fire, which is a stirring new movie about the 70’s when the south Bronx was literally burning. Featuring amazing archival footage, the movie was conceived by Vivian Vazquez, who tells the story from the perspective of her Puerto Rican family and chronicles the burning down, the neglect by the city, and ultimately the people who stayed to rebuild.
Host Gary Axelbank interviewed co-producer and director Gretchen Hildebran about the making of the film and Banana Kelly founder Harry Dirienzo, who provided first-hand detail about what it was like when the Bronx was literally burning.
The program includes a captivating trailer for the film. Take a look.
Decade of Fire will have its premiere this Saturday in the DOC NYC Film Festival at Manhattan’s SVA Theater.
