Day Care

Eva’s Kids in Hunts Point Celebrates 40 Years

It’s the kind of story that shows off the heart and soul of Bronx people. News12 the Bronx has a lovely ‘Best of the Bronx’ piece on Eva’s Kids, an in-home day care center in Hunts Point, which has been taking care of children since the early 80s. In fact, she’s so beloved and respected that the NY Times has called her “Mayor of the Children”.

The owner Eva Sanjurjo grew up in that home and began running a day care center when her daughters were born and has continued it for 40 years, says News12.

It’s clear she cares about the children, with some who are now adults bringing their own kids to her. She proudly showed off the achievements of her former children, one a firefighter and the other a medical student.

A mom, who used to attend the day care and now takes her kids to Eva’s, said that Sanjurjo took good care of her and was totally focused on making sure things went well for children.
