Peculiar Artifacts Found in Edgar Allen Poe’s Cottage

Found in the walls of Poe Cottage on the Grand Concourse and East Kingsbridge Road:  A baby’s shoe (Bronx County Historical Society)

The New York Post did a fascinating story on a list of strange items exhumed by the city’s house museums, found in some of the oldest homes in New York, including Poe Cottage in the Bronx.

Among the two hundred items discovered, a doll head and a partially eaten bagel with raspberries, both uncovered in one of the buildings of the Tenement Museum on Orchard Street.

Even more mysterious, the findings of a baby shoe and broken ceramics by the Bronx County Historical Society during a 2010 remodeling of the cottage poet Edgar Allen Poe, who once lived on East Kingsbridge Road.
