There is a petition circulating the Internet in an attempt to immortalize Marvel Comics co-founder Stan Lee. Cheat Sheet reported that the petition, which hoped to erect a statue of the icon in NYC, has garnered over 90,000 signatures.

Lee, who was born in Manhattan, attended DeWitt Clinton in the Bronx after he and his family moved to University Ave. His familiarity and love of New York City leaked through the pages of his comics (his personal motto isExcelsior, meaning ‘Ever Upward’ which is also the state motto of New York).

Upon his death at age 95, both the governor and mayor expressed their condolences and commented that he was a “true New Yorker.” The petition’s goal is to get 150,000 signatures and can be found at change.org.
