Rats! the South Bronx is the City’s Leader

The Daily Mail presented nauseating data by GeoBI Lab that shows that Melrose is the City’s most rat-infested neighborhood.

Densely populated neighborhoods attract the most rats because they generally seek food and shleter.  The findings of the study show that 35% were seen in parking lots 31% near restaurants and other food establishments, and 15% were in the proximity of subway stations.

Viewing the map of the study, it seems a bit inaccurate to define the biggest problem area of the South Bronx as “Melrose.” It would be more accurate to call it the vicinity of The Hub, lying southwest of Melrose. Plenty of food establishments, the highest foot traffic of any commercial corridor in the city, plus huge construction excavations that have uprooted the colonies. A perfect storm for rat activity.
