South Bronx Development: Opposing Views

A mural by Tats Cru Bio, Nicer, and BG183. (Robert/City Limits)

Two advocates on opposite sides of the question of development in the south Bronx squared off in City Limits this week.

First, development-friendly Jonathan Marin extolled the virtues of the development trend, then Ed Garcia Conde of welcome2thebronx weighed in with a piece that contends displacement is bound to happen and revitalization started with Bronx communities.

  1. I’m for new development. I don’t think gentrification nor revitalization will displaced anything. The South Bronx needs more affluent people mixed with the current residence. There were nothing much to do in the borough with a few exceptions. Therefore, I spent money outside the Bronx. But I noticed that things are changing little by little.
