Unequal Property Taxes: the Bronx Pays More

Crain’s New York Business reports that Bronx and Staten Island homeowners pay more in property taxes than their counterparts in Manhattan based on a report done by the Citizens Budget Commission.

Bronxites living in properties that hold up to three families and condos under three stories tall are paying more than 1% in property taxes while those in Manhattan pay as low as 0.4%.

The report’s authors argue that this illustrates New York City’s unequal property tax system.
