Update: NYCHA Finding New Apartment for Disabled Man they Evicted

The ugly story about the Bronx senior citizen who was evicted from his NYCHA home and had all his possessions tossed in the garbage seems to have a somewhat happier ending.

The Daily News says that NYCHA is now working on finding 72 year-old Bienvenido Martinez a new place to live after throwing him out of his apartment for failing to pay $816 in rent while he was at a rehabilitation center taking care of a partially amputated leg.

This development comes after Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., multiple news sources, and local residents shamed NYCHA for its actions.

In fact, the Norwood News says that NYCHA even broke the law by throwing away Martinez’s Social Security card and birth certificate during the eviction process, instead of storing it for him
