A new development proposed for 1340 Bondell Avenue in Westchester Square is being seen by locals as a boost to the community. As reported in New York YIMBY, the project would bring 227 apartments and even parking spaces for 225 vehicles.
In a phone interview with thisistheBronX, John Bonizio, the owner of Metro Optics who is also the chairman of the Westchester Square Business Improvement District, said he was excited to, “bring an element of community rather than second rate commercial activity in that spot.”
“Putting this building on that site is going to bring people and foot traffic to the area that will support local businesses, create jobs, and revitailize the commercial stirp which will, in turn, revitalize the surrounding community,” he said.
In a letter Bonizio wrote to the Department of City Planning he supported the necessary zoning change from industrial to residential, the adding of affordable housing in the area which he rescribed as “much needed”, and he indicated that the project would be in-context development.
The expected completion date for ‘Blondell Commons’ is anticipated for 2021.
