Bronx Street Named in Memory of ‘Fort Apache’ Cop

It’s been 35 years since the tragic slaying of Patrolman Thomas Ruotolo and now according to the New York Post, his name will be honored on a street sign next to the 41st Precinct.

Ruotolo switched assignments with his fellow policeman Joe Johnson on February 14, 1984 because he wanted to spend his last day as a beat cop near the 41st precinct, where he was murdered in a gas station by a robber.

Johnson, who is now retired, hasn’t been able to forget that day, but successfully campaigned to honor Ruotolo with a street sign on Southern Boulevard and Intervale Avenue.
