Six south Bronx groups have formed the South Bronx River Watershed Alliance (SBRWA) to oppose the New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) decision to move forward with a roads project that they say rides over the environmental justice concerns of the communities along the Sheridan Expressway and in Hunts Point. They say they’ve previously rejected the plan to add access ramps to the Bruckner on Edgewater Road.
But in this News 12 the Bronx story, the state insists it has communicated with the community throughout the planning process and is adding the Bronx River waterfront access that’s been requested.
The groups that make up the SBRWA are The Point, Mothers on the Move, Nos Quedamos, Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, the Pratt Center, and the Tri-State Safety Campaign. They released their own version of a road remodeling plan.
