Fordham Valedictorian Stands for Student Action Against Climate Change

(commons.wikimedia.org by Chriscobar)

The Bronx’s Fordham College played host to a revolutionary new movement amongst college students on graduation day, May 16, reports Qz.com. Robin Happel, the school’s valedictorian, is a member of Class of 0000, an organization of students across the country committed to raising awareness about the ongoing climate change crisis.

Fordham students staged a walkout in March to protest a lack of action on climate change, and Happel was unable to participate. Due to regret over this and an urge to make a statement about something she held close to her heart, the environmental studies major joined Class of 0000.

Happel used the south Bronx as an example of the immediate effects of climate change, saying that “our neighborhood becomes a heat island during the summer,” and that living in the Bronx makes environmental issues “hard to avoid.”
