Parkchester Statues Still Missing!

CBS Local News reported that famous terracota statues at the Parkchester South Condominium have been disappearing or have been found smashed to pieces.

Some believe that it might be due to ongoing construction work in the area, but are still frustrated that there’s little care taken to reserve historic artifacts. The creator of the Parkchester Project, which has been tracking the statues, says that at least ten of the statues are missing or have been destroyed.

Last month NY1 also reported this ongoing issue…

  1. So, it’s not my imagination. On closer inspection, you can see where the brickwork has been filled in with the removal of these statues. And what of the ones from the rear of the American Theater (I haven’t been back there lately)? Perhaps the buildings should be landmarked so that no more desecration/destruction occurs.
