Metro-North is planning on connecting trails and highways in Putnam County at a cost of $33 million. Charles Moerdler, an MTA board member, is supportive of this project, however he’s wondering why that can happen, while the long sought-after greenway project in Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil languishes.
According to The Riverdale Press, Community Board 8 was told they had to supply their own funds in order to have public access to the Hudson, which is along Metro-North tracks, for the greenway. According to the Press, Moerdler believes some money should be allocated to a greenway further south, especially since a recent feasibility study indicated that the plans are reasonable.
However, Catherine Rinadi, Metro-North president, called the Riverdale greenway plan an “independent project.”
